Frequently asked questions
WHAT HAPPENS IN COACHING?
In any coaching session, you will be asked what you want to work on, and from that you will be encouraged to explore the issues, examine all the possibilities, set goals, and work out what you need to do to achieve them.
Coaches are trained to listen carefully, and know the right questions to ask in order to support and challenge you as you move forward. In addition, a skilled coach will bring their life experience and intuition into play during the coaching process. A coach will also hold you accountable and help you keep on track.
Clients often find that as they work on one issue, their general confidence and awareness grow, fresh perspectives emerge, and they are able to take more control of all aspects of their lives and decisions.
Every client is an individual, so I will choose the best questioning techniques and coaching tools to help you:
• address any feelings of stress, panic or ‘stuckness’
• identify what you truly want
• find ways of moving towards your goals
• enhance your confidence and motivation
• acknowledge and enjoy your strengths and successes
Clients are always in charge of their own agenda, and their coach is their partner and supporter as they move forward.
WHO HAS COACHING?
Anyone who wants to make the most of their life. My clients have included school-leavers and young graduates; parents; business school students; leaders and executives; artists and writers; people returning to the workplace; people changing direction; people who have been made redundant; and people who are retiring. Coaching harnesses the client’s own energy and is adaptable to all situations. That’s why coaching is now commonplace in major companies and other workplaces.
IS IT LIKE COUNSELLING?
Coaching focuses on the present and the future, and encourages action and changes. Counselling works to shed light on how past events affect behaviour and thinking, and to heal old wounds.
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
Sessions are 45 minutes and a client may come for just a couple of sessions, or much longer. Some people start by having regular weekly or fortnightly sessions, then move to monthly top-ups. A common initial pattern is for clients to come for between three and eight sessions.
WHERE DOES IT HAPPEN?
I meet with people in Kent and in London, at places that are mutually convenient. I also coach on the telephone. Sometimes clients opt for a mixture of face-to-face and telephone coaching.
WHEN DOES IT HAPPEN?
I try to be as flexible as possible with timing. However, I only take a limited number of clients at any one time, so sometimes this flexibility is limited.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
My current rate for personal clients is £75 a session.
WHAT DO I DO NEXT?
