Hilary Wilce
Personal development coach based in Cranbrook, Kent and central London
About me
I’ve had a long career as a national journalist
and writer, specialising mainly in education.
For nine years I was The Independent’s
education advice columnist, working with
readers on family, career and educational
issues, and it was this that led me to train
as a coach – I have a diploma in personal
performance coaching from The Coaching
Academy, the UK’s biggest coach training organisation.
During my training, I coached post-graduate students and business school MBA students at Oxford University.
I have an MA in geography from Cambridge University, and an MA in creative writing from London University. I am a trained basic skills tutor, and I have lived and worked as a journalist in Africa, the Middle East and the United States.
I am also a writer. I have written a self-help book for parents, contributed to books on school leadership and teaching excellence, and my short stories have won awards and been published in the UK and US. I was also once a romantic novelist – under a pseudonym!
I am married, have a son and two daughters, and worked part-time while my children were growing up.
All of this has given me exceptional experience in listening closely to people, understanding their stories, and working flexibly with a wide range of different contexts and challenges.

“As soon as I started to work with Hilary I began to feel more focused and clear about my goals. She helped me explore what was important to me, she supported and encouraged me, and she never ‘let me off the hook’. As a result I’ve found the confidence and focus to negotiate an entirely new working arrangement that I know will impact all areas of my life.”
